Tin Project

Adapter Tin

I decided to decorate a tin I use for my audio adapters.  Like RCA couplers, 3.5mm to ¼ inch, splitters.  Those sorts of things.  I decided to engrave it with an engraver that I picked up for $15 at Harbor Freight.  It works like a tattoo gun.  My first step was to get the label off of the tin.  The glue Tazo used to attach the label to this tin can’t possibly be legal.  The only thing that worked at removing it was a heat gun.  Soaking it did not make a difference, chemical glue removers made no difference, physically scraping with a razor blade made no difference.  Only heating the glue and then wiping off the molten residue did the trick.

After all of that struggle I decided to engrave the top first.  Which basically had no label.  There is something wrong with me.  I decided on a sun and did a quick sketch.  I laid down the framework in pencil in order to trace the lines with the engraver.

I only completed the top 90%.  The whole process took at least 10 hours just to get to this point on THE LID.  I was thinking about putting a Chinese dragon circling around the rest of the tin.  I’ll get there eventually.  Happy day to you.

Golden Medallion

skullbanner

This is one of the banners I had made for an old blog.  Aptly named Failed Fusion.  The repeating figures in the eye sockets had been done by Salvador Dali in his painting The Face of War in 1941 It is important to know at least some history.  You can know who you are mimicking!  Intentionally or not.

It is cool when you find something similar between your work and someone else’s.  It connects you in a small way to another person’s expression.  Maybe their life was similar to yours in order for them to end up where they did in their work.  It is a healthful reminder that you ARE a special snowflake, but a special snowflake just like everyone else.

And you may not be so different from Da Vinci or Vermeer.

Quickly Moving

Slow down to cut the grass.  If you find yourself caught up in a rat race, remember your pace.  We all finish one way or another.  I am re-adjusting this blog’s focus onto personal art projects.  With pictures, audio, and video.  Some types of things I would like to include over time are Stop-Motion Animation, Sculpture, Photo Composites, Sketches, Strait Photography, Audio Productions, Painting, and Explorations in Film.

I would like for this blog to be a source of inspiration, encouragement, and learning.  Hopefully, I will be able to focus on this blog again and in a different light, at least for a little while.  I am excited.  Steam engine whistle chug furnace Iron Soot coal

I just purchased a new sketchbook from Strathmore.  I have really only used this brand of sketchbook because I have always been really happy with the texture and weight of the paper.  I usually sketch with #2 pencils.  I have a basic set of drawing pencils but I don’t typically use them.

I was unhappy with this sketch until I added shadows.  Picking a source(s) of light is important in visual art!  So is an extra 15 minutes of work!  I chose to have my light source be, in my mind, the sun, in the upper right above the house and out of frame.

I began this sketch with the geometric strawberry head and it evolved into a guy cutting a lawn.  Hopefully many more where this post came from.  Cheers!

Groovy Steve

There once lived a dude by the name of Groovy Steve.  Groovy Steve wore scarlet turbans and star shaped sunglasses.  He loved to smoke.  He smoked anything.  Opium, grass, pine cones.  He was one smokey motherfucker.  One day he got this strange stuff from a strange tree in the forest.  It sparkled like diamonds and the night sky.  He smoked it and then died.

THE END
